Almost every account scam is one of three moves. None of them are clever — they work because the buyer pays before there is anything holding the seller to their word. Once you know the shape of each, they stop working on you.
The recovery. The seller hands over the login, you play for a week, and then the account goes back to them. It was never fully transferred: they kept the original email, filed a recovery request, and support gave it back to the person who could prove they created it. This is the most common one, and the most expensive, because it happens after you have stopped paying attention.
The resale. The same account is sold to four people in a month. Everyone gets working credentials on day one. Whoever changes the password first keeps it, and the rest find out when they cannot log in.
The screenshot. The locker in the photos belongs to somebody else. What arrives is an account with three skins and a name that looks similar. By the time you check, the seller is gone.
Does the email come with the account, and can I change it right now?
Every one of the three attacks needs the seller to keep a way back in. Full email access removes it. If the answer is anything other than a plain yes — «email is attached to my number», «I will transfer it later», «Epic does not allow that» — the deal has a back door, and the price does not matter.
Ask it before you pay. A seller who intends to hand over the account has no reason to hesitate.
Asking the right question still leaves you trusting the answer. Escrow does not.
When the payment is held rather than forwarded, the seller has money they cannot touch and a clock they cannot stop. On this marketplace that clock is 72 hours: the account has to keep working for three days after delivery before the seller sees anything. A recovery filed on day two costs the seller the sale.
The same mechanism handles the screenshot problem. You open a dispute, an operator compares what was promised with what arrived, and the money goes back — it never left in the first place.
The window that matters is right after delivery, while the payment is still held:

If what you want is skins rather than one specific account, a mystery chest sidesteps the whole problem. There is no external seller to recover anything: the account comes from stock the marketplace already holds, and if it stops working it is replaced from the same pool.
You trade certainty about the exact locker for certainty about the transaction — which, for a first purchase, is usually the better trade.
If you already know which skin you are after, start from the shelf rather than from search: Fortnite accounts in full, OG accounts registered in 2017, or the stacked lockers with 200 skins and up. Every listing on those pages goes through the escrow described above.
