Short answer first: Skull Trooper is two different products under one
name, and most listings are the cheaper one. The median Skull Trooper
listing on our shelf sells for
$67.15, against
$41.82 for the median Fortnite account — a
premium, but a modest one next to what the battle-pass and promotion skins
carry. The cheapest listing with it is
$6.02, the dearest
$1,498.58, and
203 of the
1 964 live Fortnite accounts carry it. The
Skull Trooper accounts shelf prints those numbers,
the median of accounts without the skin, and — the part that matters here —
when the skin was last in the item shop.
Skull Trooper was the first Halloween skin, sold in the item shop in October
2017 during Season 1. It disappeared for a year, and in October 2018 Epic
brought it back with two things attached: the Ghoul Trooper alongside it, and
a purple glow style that only accounts which had bought the skin in 2017
could select. Since then it has returned most Octobers. Our shop history — it
is linked from the shelf page — counts the appearances, and the number is
large.
So the skin itself is not scarce. Anyone with V-Bucks in the right week can
have it, and that is why a Skull Trooper badge on a listing does not by itself
make the account an OG one. What makes it OG is the purple style, and the
purple style is the thing a listing has to show, because the badge on the
card cannot tell the 2017 purchase from the 2024 one.
On every item shelf we ask whether listings with the item ask more than
listings without it once locker size is taken into account. Skull Trooper
passes, narrowly: the lockers of the two groups are comparable and the group
with the skin asks somewhat more. Two things are inside that premium.
The first is the skin's reputation. Skull Trooper is still the skin people
mean when they say "OG Fortnite", and a listing with it draws buyers who do
not stop to check the style. The second is the accounts that do have the
purple style — the genuine 2017 purchases, which tend to carry everything else
from that autumn, and which sit at the top of the group's spread from
$33.64 to
$135.62 and beyond.
The OG skins tier list puts Skull
Trooper where the shelf puts it: below the skins that never returned — Black
Knight, Renegade Raider, the promotion skins — and above the ordinary shop
catalogue.
- Ask for the styles screen. In the locker, Skull Trooper shows its
selectable styles; the purple glow appears only on accounts that owned the
skin before the 2018 return. A seller who owns the OG version will show it
without being asked twice.
- Read the account's age. The listing's registration date and the other
cosmetics around the skin — Season 1 and 2 pass items, 2017 emotes —
corroborate a 2017 purchase; a young account with Skull Trooper is a shop
purchase by definition.
- Ghoul Trooper is a separate question. It came back in 2018 with its own
pink OG style; an account with both OG styles is a 2017 account twice over.

- Full access with email change — the age that makes the account valuable is
also what makes it recoverable by whoever still holds the mailbox.
- Today's median on the Fortnite account value page, so
the premium is a premium over the shelf as it is now.
