How much is a Steam account worth? Library, age and the two games that double the price
Median Steam account on our shelf: $13.94 across 1 544 listings. The library sets the price, age multiplies it, and two games in the library — Rust and CS2 — lift the median three to five times on their own. Here is what the numbers support.
If you want one number: the median Steam account on our shelf sells for $13.94. The full range on 6 September 2026 runs from $1.84 to $863.78 across 1 544 listings — the largest shelf we have ever priced, and the first that is a platform rather than a game.
That changes what the question means. A Steam account is a library, and "how much is it worth" is really "what is in it". Four in ten listings sit under $10; one in fifteen clears $100. The spread is the whole story.
What tracks the price
The same measurement as for every other game — how strongly each number on a listing tracks its final price, across all 1 544 listings:
| what is on the account | how strongly it tracks price |
|---|---|
| Inventory value | 0.44 |
| Games in the library | 0.42 |
| Paid games | 0.41 |
| Steam level | 0.30 |
| Lifetime spend | 0.27 |
| Friends | 0.26 |
| Steam Points | 0.10 |
| Registration year | −0.19 |
Nothing dominates the way a single stat does in Genshin or Dota; the library and the inventory lead together at just over 0.4, with level, spend and even the friends list trailing behind. The registration year is negative because older is dearer. And the number that sounds like it should matter most — lifetime spend — is only fifth, for a reason worth its own section below.
The library: count first, then names
| games in the library | listings | median |
|---|---|---|
| under 10 | 712 | $8.77 |
| 10 – 29 | 662 | $16.69 |
| 30 – 99 | 159 | $50.07 |
| 100 or more | 11 | $122.55 |
Each band roughly doubles or triples the last, and the top band is fourteen times the bottom. But the count is a headline, not the product: the dearest account on the shelf, at $863.78, holds 21 games. What it also holds is CS2 Prime and Rust. The second dearest, $670.29, holds 37 games with Total War and Bannerlord; the account with 610 games sells for $419.22 — a lot, and well under the 21-game one.
So read the count for the band and the names for the price.
Two games that move the median on their own
The library flags we receive let us split the shelf by whether a specific game is owned:
| game in the library | listings | median | without it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rust | 75 | $66.76 | $13.30 |
| CS2 | 370 | $40.96 | $10.23 |
| Team Fortress 2 | 74 | $39.81 | $13.34 |
| PUBG | 143 | $31.84 | $13.18 |
| Dota 2 | 230 | $25.01 | $12.51 |
Rust multiplies the median five times, and it is the only paid game in the list: it costs real money, has no free route in, and a second account is the only way back after a game ban, so an account that owns it is priced as an account that owns it. CS2 quadruples the median — not because the game costs anything but because on this shelf "has CS2" nearly always means Prime status, a played profile and often an inventory. The Rust shelf and the CS2 shelf are where those accounts live.
Dota 2 and PUBG lift the median too, more modestly. Both are free to install; what buyers are paying for is the account that played them.
Age is a multiplier, and it multiplies the library
| registered | listings | median |
|---|---|---|
| 2010 or earlier | 186 | $25.20 |
| 2011 – 2015 | 555 | $17.21 |
| 2016 – 2020 | 569 | $11.38 |
| 2021 or later | 234 | $10.36 |
Older accounts hold a higher median at every step — the fifteen-year-old cohort sells for two and a half times the newest. But cross age with the library and the picture is the same one we found on Roblox: age multiplies what is there, it does not replace it.
| under 30 games | 30 games or more | |
|---|---|---|
| registered 2016 or later | $9.99 (740) | $25.40 (61) |
| registered 2015 or earlier | $15.40 (629) | $76.46 (110) |
An old account with a small library is worth half again as much as a new one. An old account with a large library is worth three times a new one with the same library — and seven and a half times the shelf's median. The old-account shelf holds the 2015-and-earlier cohort.
Why lifetime spend is a poor yardstick
Steam knows how much was ever spent on an account, and the supplier passes it on converted at today's rate. On our shelf it does not behave:
| lifetime spend (converted) | listings | median |
|---|---|---|
| under $100 | 386 | $16.46 |
| $100 – $299 | 897 | $9.16 |
| $300 – $999 | 216 | $23.36 |
| $1 000 or more | 45 | $83.45 |
The bottom band is dearer than the one above it. The explanation is in the conversion: money spent a decade ago in a currency that has since fallen converts to a small number today, while the games it bought are still full price. Spend under a hundred dollars often means an old account whose real purchases were made when they cost more — which is why the games count and the year predict the price better than the receipt does. Above $1 000 the figure starts to mean what it says, and those 45 accounts hold a median six times the shelf.
Region: where the account shops decides half the price
Every Steam account belongs to the country of its store, and the store decides prices, currency and payment methods. On our shelf the country tracks the price more than you would expect:
| store country | listings | median |
|---|---|---|
| Germany | 446 | $25.02 |
| Canada | 31 | $22.48 |
| Netherlands | 31 | $18.31 |
| France | 116 | $14.64 |
| United States | 135 | $13.89 |
| Poland | 40 | $13.56 |
| United Kingdom | 79 | $9.99 |
| Italy | 39 | $8.96 |
| Brazil | 49 | $6.77 |
| Indonesia | 85 | $3.73 |
| India | 31 | $3.25 |
Part of this is the library again — German accounts on this shelf are older and better stocked. Part of it is the store itself: an Indonesian or Indian store buys games at regional prices, and an account that can only shop there is worth a fraction to a European buyer who cannot pay in it. Check the region on the card against how you intend to pay before the count and the names.
Each region now has a shelf of its own — Germany, United States, Indonesia, China and the rest — and what the store country changes for a buyer, and what it leaves alone, is written up in Steam account region: what the store country changes.
How to price yours without guessing
- Name the games, not the number. A handful of full-price titles beats fifty bundle leftovers; the card should list them, and a buyer reads names.
- Say the year. Registration year is on the card and it multiplies the library — an old account with a real library is the top of this market.
- Name Rust and CS2 Prime in the first line if you have them. They are the two flags that move the median on their own.
- State the region and the status. Store country, limited or full, any trade or VAC ban — these decide whether the same library is worth anything to the person reading.
The Steam account value calculator prices against the live shelf rather than a formula. When you are ready to list, sell your Steam account — escrow holds the payment until the buyer confirms the login works.
Figures from our own catalogue on 6 September 2026: 1 544 Steam listings, $1.84 to $863.78, median $13.94, quartiles $6.24 – $31.12. Correlations are Pearson coefficients across the listings with the attribute present; lifetime spend is the supplier's conversion at the day's rate. Everything moves as stock moves.
