Steam accounts whose store region is the United States — the region is read from the account data, not from the seller's title. The US store prices in dollars and is the base tier: every regional price on Steam is a discount or a markup from this one.
On 6 September 2026 the shelf held 135 US-region accounts with a median of $13.89, almost exactly the Steam median as a whole. A US account is neither the cheap-region bargain nor the old-library premium; it is the default, which is precisely why people ask for it.
Because it removes a whole class of friction. A buyer in the United States on a foreign-region account meets Steam's region check the first time they try to pay: the store notices the card and the location do not match the account's country and asks to move the region — a move that costs a purchase and can only be made once every few months. On a US account nothing of that happens; the card works, gift cards from any US shop work, and the wallet is in the currency you earn.
The second reason is the catalogue. The US store carries everything without region-specific editions or age-rating cuts, and most region-locked keys sold on the grey market are locked to exactly this region. If you already own keys or a wallet balance in dollars, this is the region they expect.
What the US region does not give you is a discount. Games cost the full sticker price here, and the cheap accounts on this shelf are cheap because of small libraries, not because of where they live.
