Is a China-region account the same as a Steam China account?
No. The region is where the account shops; Steam China is a separate client with its own catalogue. The card shows a 'Region: China (Perfect World)' line only for the latter — check it, and assume nothing from the region field.
Can I use a China-region account from outside China?
Playing, yes. Buying new games inside it at Chinese prices takes a Chinese payment method; a foreign card meets the region check and an offer to move the account to your country.
Are some games missing from the Chinese store?
In the global client, a few publishers do not sell to the China region, and those titles will not appear in the store for the account. What the account already owns is unaffected — the library on the card is what you get.

Steam accounts whose store region is China — the region is read from the account data, not from the seller's title. These are accounts on the global Steam client that shop in the Chinese store, priced in yuan and sitting in one of the lower regional tiers.
That is a different thing from a Steam China account. Steam China is the separate, Perfect World-run client with its own small catalogue and real-name rules; the card marks those with a red 'Region: China (Perfect World)' line, and most accounts on this shelf do not carry it. On 6 September 2026 the shelf held 31 China-region accounts with a median of $23.58 — above the Steam shelf overall, because the supply here is older accounts with real libraries, not throwaways.
For a buyer in China it is the practical choice: the region matches the card, the wallet and the payment methods that actually work there — Alipay, WeChat Pay — and there is no mismatch prompt on the first purchase. The Chinese store is also cheaper than the US or European tiers, which draws the same arbitrage buyers as the [Indonesia shelf](/steam/indonesia), with the same catch: paying at those prices takes a Chinese payment method.
The first thing to check on the card is the Perfect World line. A global account with a China region plays the full Steam catalogue it owns, anywhere. A Steam China account is bound to the Chinese client, sees only the titles licensed there, and needs a Chinese phone number for its real-name step; it is a smaller product, and the card says so before you pay. Do not infer either from the region alone — the two are separate fields.
Beyond that the Steam-side rules are the ones from the [main Steam shelf](/steam/all): full access with the email, the account's ban and trade status on the card, and the fifteen-day trade hold after the authenticator is replaced.
