Search for Apex account merging and you find two years of forum threads asking
the same thing in different words: can I combine my accounts? The answer has
been settled since the end of 2023, and it is worth stating plainly because it
changes what a bought account is.
Until late 2023, Apex progress lived on the platform you played on. A
PlayStation player who also played on PC had two separate profiles under one
EA account, with two levels, two collections and two ranks.
With the cross-progression update, EA merged those platform profiles into one
progression per EA account. The merge was automatic and one-time: for every
EA account that had more than one platform linked, the game combined the
unlocks, kept the highest level, and from then on every linked platform showed
the same progress. Accounts that had only one platform linked had nothing to
merge and simply became cross-progression accounts going forward.
That is the whole event. There is no button, no support request and no second
run. A player who linked a new console to their EA account after the merge
gets the EA account's progress on that console — the console's own prior
progress, if any, does not join.
It was never a way to combine two EA accounts. Two EA accounts are two
accounts; each has its own progression, and EA does not fold one into another,
before the merge or since. The persistent searches for «merging» are mostly
people hoping that buying a second account can be turned into more content on
their main. It cannot. What you buy is a second EA account, and its level,
rank, collection and any heirloom stay on it.
For a buyer this is the single most important thing to understand about the
Apex market: the account is the product, not the items. Nothing transfers
out of it.
Because progress is now per EA account, the question is which platforms the
EA account is linked to, and that is shown on every card on our
Apex shelf.
- Steam-linked. Plays on PC through Steam with the Steam login that comes
with the account. On our shelf the Steam-linked accounts are the majority
and carry a higher median — a real but modest difference.
- PlayStation- or Xbox-linked. Plays on that console under that linked
console profile. The profile belongs to whoever created it; if it is a
stranger's, the account is tied to a stranger's console login, and EA
limits how platform links can be changed. Treat a console link on a card as
permanent unless the console login is part of the deal.
- EA app only. Plays on PC through the EA app.
Linking a new platform of your own to a bought EA account is possible within
EA's rules — generally one account per platform, with restrictions on
unlinking — and it brings the EA account's progress to that platform. It does
not bring anything from your existing profile on that platform into the
bought account.
Can I merge a bought account with my main? No. Two EA accounts never
merge. Buy the account for what is on it.
Will the heirloom show on my console? If the console is linked to the
bought EA account, yes — the collection is per EA account. If your console is
linked to your own EA account, no; that is the merge question again.
Can I unlink the previous owner's PlayStation and link mine? Sometimes,
within EA's limits, and it is the first thing to check on the card before you
pay rather than after. An account whose only link is a console profile you
will not get is an account you can play only through that profile.
Why do some accounts show a level and no rank? Because the previous
owner never played ranked on it, or played it before the merge on a platform
whose ranked history did not carry a current season. The card shows what the
account data reports; missing means missing, not hidden.
The merge changed nothing about ownership, and EA is one of the publishers
that acts on account transfers when it notices them. So the first ten minutes
are the same as for any EA account: change the password, move the email to
your own, turn on EA login verification, and on the linked accounts page
remove every platform profile that is not yours. Then open the game on the
platform the account is linked to and compare level, rank, points and the
collection with the card — before confirming the order, because confirming is
what releases the seller's money.
