Steam accounts registered in 2004 or earlier — the registration date is read from the account data, not from the seller's title. Steam opened on 12 September 2003, so this shelf is the platform's first sixteen months: accounts that were there before the Steam store sold a single third-party game.
They are rare. On 6 September 2026 the shelf held 18 of them among 1 544 Steam listings — one from 2003, seventeen from 2004 — and the accounts registered by 2005 had a median price of $33.51 against $11.12 for accounts from 2016 onwards. Age is the second price axis on Steam after the library, and this is the top of it.
A 2004 account was made to play Half-Life 2 or Counter-Strike; Steam was the launcher those games forced on people, and the accounts that survived are the ones somebody kept using for two decades. They carry what only time gives: the Years of Service badge at its maximum, a low-digit profile in the eyes of anyone who reads Steam IDs, and, on many of them, a library that grew through every sale since — the accounts here average far more games than the shelf.
The date is also a trust signal in games that gate on it. Servers and communities that reject fresh accounts accept these without a second look, and a two-decade record of no bans is a record no new account can buy.
Check three things on the card before the date sways you: the library, because age alone can be a nearly empty account kept alive; the ban and trade status; and full access with the original email, which on an account this old is the only real protection against the first owner's recovery claim.
